AN APPEAL BY THE DALAI LAMA
SPEAKER PELOSI ASKS CHINA TO FREE TIBETANS DETAINED FOR PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATIONS
COVERAGE OF WHITE HOUSE RALLY FOR TIBET
CANDLELIGHT STIR ON OLYMPICS EVE AGAINST REPRESSION
IN TIBET The world knows all
too well that the Chinese government has blatantly and systematically violated almost all the commitments it made to the International
Olympic Committee to respect human rights and freedom of the press in 2001 to win the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympics.
In order to peacefully protest against Beijing regime, Tibetans, friends of Tibet and supporters of human rights in
general all over the world have planned to organize prayer vigil by lighting Candles for Tibet on the eve of opening ceremony
of the Beijing Olympics. Read the e-mail below for your information.
In order to register and demonstrate CATA's
protest against Chinese government, not the people, and show unity and solidarity with the ongoing global action, CATA Board calls upon all members to assemble at Dupont Circle, on Thursday,
August 7, 2008, at 8.00 PM to participate in the Candle for Tibet vigil. CATA will provide candles. Please show
up in large numbers with flags of Tibet and U.S. and posters and banners, if you have. Resumption of Protest CATA Board would like to inform each and every member that we will resume holding peaceful protests at the Chinese
Embassy effective Friday, August 1st 2008, from 3:00 PM every evening. Please remember that our protests must remain peaceful
and issue-based and not necessarily directed against Beijing Olympics per se. We need to remain focussed on pressuring
the government of People's Republic of China honor its pledges to respect and improve human rights in Tibet and China
as a condition for awarding the hosting of the 2008 Summer Olympiad and release all political prisoners before the games actually
open.
